Head Coach - Jay Wareham
Coach Jay grew up swimming in Northern Virginia. He went on to swim for Penn State - Altoona College, where he was team captain and two-time Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He's currently working on his Masters in school counseling at George Mason.
Coach Jay brings a wealth of experience to the Rapids, specializing in coaching both the younger swimmers at Nation’s Capital Swim Club, age 9-11, and also the Club's elite older swimmers, age 15-18. This will no doubt bring an added dimension to the Rapids 2019 experience, since we have many older swimmers who have grown up with the team.
Assistant Coach - Jason Cochrane
Jason is excited to begin his first year as an assistant coach with the Great Falls Rapids. Over the past 15 years, Jason has coached at the summer league, high school, and club levels. He has worked with swimmers ranging from beginners to Olympic Trials Qualifiers. Jason currently coaches full time for Machine Aquatics, working with the National Prep & National Team level swimmers. Prior to joining Machine, Jason spent 2 ½ years with Nitro Swimming in Austin, TX, 7 years with the Darien YMCA Piranhas in Darien, CT, and 3 years with the Whippany Waves in NJ. In 2016, he was selected by USA Swimming to be on the staff for the National Diversity Select Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. For the past 2 years, Jason has served as head coach for the Hunter Mill & Langley NVSL summer swim teams.
Jason believes in a positive approach and enjoys motivating his swimmers to not only reach their goals, but to surpass them. Outside of the pool, Jason spends time watching sports and cheering for the NY Giants, NY Mets, NJ Devils, WVU Mountaineers, and Notre Dame Football! He has an identical twin brother, Jeremy, who coaches at NCAP.
